Hillie Billie Summary:
-70 miles
-18 legs
-BE-YOOT-A-FULL Texas Hill Country
-4-6 runners per team
-Race date: Saturday, October 2010 (most likely 10/16 or 10/23)
Because we’re committed to providing a quality event, we will be capping this first year event to 130 teams.
We anticipate that the average pace that teams run the Hillie Billie will be about 9:00min/mile. Slower teams will start earlier in the morning (exact start times are TBD)… as early as 6AM, while average paced teams will start at 7:30AM. The fastest teams will start at 9AM (yet will be amongst the very first teams to finish). It is fairly important that the predicted times ultimately provided are somewhat accurate. If a team submits a pace, say 10:00min/mile, and then consequently gets a start time of 6:30AM, but then proceeds to run much faster (like 8:30 pace), then they will start running ahead of our volunteer exchange teams and will be all alone. It’s best for everyone to provide a reasonable predicted time. To get this, simply average your team members’ 10 mile or ½ marathon race pace. If you’d like assistance with this, please feel free to contact us.
Having 4 to 6 members allows you to customize your team and your race just how you like them! Most teams will go with a 6-person team which means that everyone will run 3 legs. A 4 person team, on the other hand would have 2 people running 4 legs and 2 people running 5.
What’s in it for me?
It’s an honest question that we do occasionally receive. Ask anyone who does long distance relays, and they’ll tell you that the main thing you get is an unforgettable experience with friends that is difficult to put a price tag on. It is our pleasure to provide such venues. But, you also get a technical event shirt, event finisher medals, water/soft drinks at the start and finish, and post-race food at the finish. But, don’t just take our word for it that relays are worth your time, effort, and money… ask others who have done a long distance relay event!
Awards
Awards will be presented for the first three teams in the following divisions: Open Men, Open Women, Open Mixed, Masters Men, Masters Women, and Masters Mixed (Mixed teams require at least two females). Additionally, we’ll have awards for the two best names, the two best decorated, and the most spirited team!
Rules
In upcoming weeks, we will provide the rules for the Hillie Billie. They are not difficult and they center around safety, race efficiency, and competitive fairness.
